Fellowship Baptist
Church is a family-friendly church, so it comes as no surprise that
it was founded by young families. Springing up in the seventies, a
true, grassroots do-it-yourself project began when a few ordinary
people with no minister, no money, and no building felt God calling
them to pioneer. June 23, 1974 a small group of 11 adults and 6 kids
launched our first church service. Others joined, everyone shared
duties, and immediately we added Sunday School, midweek services,
and kids club.
Faith and flexibility
were the key. In the “good old days” we never once had church in a
church; first a house basement, then a school gym, then the art
gallery on the top floor of the museum, finally the community
center. After 6 years of growing pains, one of our families bought
us property, and we began a do-it-yourself building project that
became one long year of blood, sweat, tears and insulation itch.
Pioneering is a
mindset of a healthy church, and the spacious building of 1980
became crowded. We expanded the auditorium, added an educational
wing (1998), and are presently planning further expansion.
Through all the
challenges and changes, we have been moved forward by a series of
dedicated pastors and a constant influx of committed believers. From
day one, God has guided and provided. Stories of hard work and humour
abound, and are yet to be written. Adventure goes on – join us!
“Not to us, O Lord, not to us,
But to your name be the glory
Because of your love and faithfulness.”
Psalm 115:1
